Game Setup

Download Fraud Launcher 2 for an easy installation experience!

User interface will change in time.

Fraud Launcher 2 lets you select your Cosmonarchy game build and game version, as well as the path to install / look for Cosmonarchy and Starcraft 1.16.1.

Your first step is to select the location you want to install Starcraft and Cosmonarchy to. Pick a location in userspace (for example, C:\Users\Games), and make sure your drive has enough space!
Starcraft version 1.16.1 requires approximately 1GB of disk space. Each game build of Cosmonarchy requires approximately 1GB of disk space. This makes for a total of 2-3GB depending on whether you install both game builds.

After selecting your install location, pressing 'play' will install Starcraft and your selected game build of Cosmonarchy.

Cosmonarchy has two distinct game builds:
  • Release builds, updated weekly -- tournaments are played on this version!
  • Prerelease builds, updated daily -- new patches are tested on this version!

You should always use Fraud Launcher 2 to launch Cosmonarchy, since it automatically updates your selected game build to the latest version before running the game. Always keep Fraud Launcher 2 in a folder with its dependencies! We are currently investigating packing these dependencies into the executable for better portability.

You can make a shortcut by right-clicking the Fraud Launcher 2 executable and clicking Send To -> Desktop (Create Shortcut)

You can also backdate your game version using Fraud Launcher 2. This feature allows you to watch older replays and test older versions of the game.
Please note that versions are unique to each game build, so Release and Prerelease will have different versions from each other. Different versions and game builds of Cosmonarchy cannot connect to each others' lobbies.

First Launch

When you first run a fresh update for Cosmonarchy for the first time, expect a longer-than-normal launch time while the the game recompiles its asset library.

Running Cosmonarchy for the first time also generates a config.yml file for you to explore, allowing you to toggle grid hotkeys and quick-targeting on and off, among other things.

You can press ALT+ENTER to toggle between fullscreen and windowed mode. You can modify your cncdraw config by navigating to your Starcraft 1.16.1 directory and editing ddraw.ini.

Troubleshooting

Fraud Launcher issues

This issue is caused by closing the Fraud Launcher while it is downloading Cosmonarchy. If you receive the above error, navigate to the directory you chose to install Cosmonarchy too, and delete the Release and Prerelease folders. Try the launcher afterwards.

This issue is caused by antivirus (such as Norton 360) blocking write access for the launcher. These kinds antiviruses are not broadly recommended, but you can simply disable them for a short time and run the Launcher in that window.

Game issues

If, after a successful installation, Cosmonarchy does not appear to run, but Starcraft itself works just fine, you can try downloading and installing this Microsoft redistributable. Doing so should allow Cosmonarchy to launch. You should also rule out antivirus conflicts, as noted in the Launcher section above.

If you have problems with aspect ratio stretching and use an Nvidia graphics card, you can try the following steps, supplied by DarkenedFantasies:
  • Nvidia control panel > Adjust desktop size and position > Scaling
  • Select "Aspect ratio" to fill the screen but preserve the aspect ratio
  • Select "No scaling" to use the native game resolution with no upscaling

Multiplayer

CrownLink

Cosmonarchy's bespoke P2P solution allows players to connect to each other easily! Enter CrownLink, written by Juniper and Veeq7! Eventually, this installation process will be integrated into Fraud Launcher 2.
  • Download and install this Microsoft dependency
  • Get the latest CrownLink.snp from CrownLink's releases
  • Place CrownLink.snp inside the CosmonarchyStarcraft` directory
  • In the multiplayer connection selector, use CrownLink for low player counts and CrownLink Double Brain Cells for high player counts

Radmin

Community games were once organized using Radmin, a free and seemingly lightweight tunneling utility for LAN emulation. DO NOT leave Radmin running when using CrownLink!
  • Download Radmin (MEGA mirror)
  • Join the No Frauds Club network with the following credentials:
    • Network name: Cosmonarchy
    • Password: toddad69
  • Create and join Starcraft games by launching Starcraft, selecting Multiplayer, and selecting Local Area Network (UDP)
  • Join the No Frauds Club discord server to organize community games in real time!

If you are trying to play multiplayer via emulated LAN, and you cannot join a lobby, try updating (or having the host to update)!

If you receive a generic "unable to join game" error, you should have the lobby host update their firewall settings to allow port 6112 for inbound and outbound connections.
  • Search for 'windows defender firewall' or go to control panel -> all control panel items -> windows defender firewall
  • Select 'advanced settings' and click on 'inbound rules' on the left
  • Select 'new rule' on the right, select 'port', click 'next', select 'UDP', and input '6112' as the desired port
  • Select 'allow the connection' (default), click 'next', and make sure private and public tickboxes are checked
  • Name the rule whatever you wish (i.e. Starcraft 6112), and repeat the steps for 'outbound rules'

cncdraw Configs

For players that have trouble with the default cncdraw packaged with Cosmonarchy, they can try this config supplied by community member fagguto and see if it yields them better results. Replace the ddraw.ini file in your Starcraft 1.16.1 folder and you should be good to go!

If you create a customized config for a different resolution or reason, reach out and we can add it to this page!
